Summits on the Air (SOTA) is an award scheme for radio amateurs and shortwave listeners that encourages portable operation in mountainous areas. SOTA has been carefully designed to make participation possible for everyone – this is not just for mountaineers! There are awards for activators (those who ascend to the summits) and chasers (who either operate from home, a local hilltop or are even Activators on other summits). Taken from www.sota.org.uk
I started chasing with SOTA following a chance QSO with Richard G3CWI one of the co instigators of SOTA in April 2007. By the end of May that year I achieved 1000 points and gained the Shack Sloth Award. On the 3rd May 07 I started activating primarily in central Scotland close to where I lived in Stirling. My involvement in SOTA stopped in Oct 08 due to family reasons and recommenced again in 2014.
